Program Overview.

Week 0: Intake and Assessment (Pre-Program)

The intake session is an introductory meeting where both partners and the therapist come together to set the foundation for the pre-marital counseling program. It provides an opportunity to clarify expectations, discuss any immediate concerns, and outline the structure of the program.

Week 1: Foundational Values and Relationship Goals

In the first session, you’ll explore your core values, relationship vision, and future goals as a couple. Together, you’ll start crafting a Relationship Vision Statement to align your shared values and dreams for your life together.

Week 2: Communication and Conflict Management

This week focuses on building effective communication skills, such as active listening and expressing needs constructively. You’ll also learn to identify and counteract common relationship pitfalls using Gottman’s Four Horsemen framework, ensuring you approach conflicts with understanding and care.

Week 3: Self-Reflection and Individual Goals

The third week dives into individual histories and personal growth. Each partner reflects on their family background, attachment style, and personal aspirations while addressing how these influence the relationship. This session helps align individual growth with shared marital goals.

Week 4: Emotional Connection and Trust-Building

You’ll deepen your emotional connection through Emotionally Focused Therapy techniques, practicing vulnerability and validation. This week emphasizes trust-building and creating rituals for consistent emotional bonding, such as daily check-ins or meaningful date nights.

Week 5: Family Dynamics, Boundaries, and Roles

This session explores how family backgrounds and dynamics impact your relationship. You’ll work together to set boundaries with extended family, navigate familial expectations, and define roles within your marriage to ensure clarity and harmony.

Week 6: Sexuality, Intimacy, and Future Planning

This session focuses on fostering open conversations about intimacy and sexual expectations. Together, you’ll align on future goals, such as financial planning or parenting, and finalize your Relationship Vision Statement, ensuring your partnership remains strong and unified.

Week 7: Final Wrap-Up and Future Planning

In this closing session, we’ll review your progress and address any lingering concerns. You’ll receive resources and recommendations for ongoing support, equipping you with tools to maintain a thriving relationship.
